(Update: Roberts withdraws from debate due to illness)

About 90 minutes before Friday night’s scheduled Second Congressional District debate, to be aired and live-streamed by KTVZ, Independent Party candidate Mark Roberts withdrew, due to illness.

NewsChannel 21 received this email around 5:30 p.m.:

“Dear friends and fellow voters, I drove to Bend early today to participate in the congressional forum provided by KTVZ with a fever and hoping to get some rest.

“Unfortunately, as the day has worn on, my condition has worsened and I have to return to my home in Medford.

“It is with great sadness that I have to withdraw from the forum at this time and I wish the best to Congressman Walden and Ms McLeod-Skinner.

“I had hoped to provide a third-party perspective to fellow residents of the second district and a message of opportunity and prosperity that is evident in the pages of my website. I hope to have the same opportunity on another day. “

NewsChannel 21 aired and livestreamed our exclusive Friday night debate between Rep. Greg Walden, R-Ore., and Democratic Party nominee Jamie McLeod-Skinner.

It’s the only such debate scheduled in the race for Oregon’s 2nd Congressional District.

We’ve posted the full debate video in recorded segments on our Decision 2018 page at https://www.ktvz.com/decision-2018.

We appreciate the hundreds of proposed debate questions shared with us through our site’s Share tab. We regret we won’t be able to cover them all, but we hope the debate proves enlightening and worthwhile to 2nd District voters.
