Sunset Cove Campground, day use area to close

KTVZ

The Crescent Ranger District of the Deschutes National Forest will be closing Sunset Cove Campground and Day Use area for the winter season and to allow for the removal of hazardous trees, officials said Saturday.

The recreation site, including the boat launch, will be closed beginning Monday to allow crews to remove trees that are showing signs of failure such as disease or defects.

During the following weeks, while operations crews are actively falling trees, the site will be closed to all use. For both public and operator safety, please respect all signed closures, officials said. Hazard trees are removed since dead and dying trees are not compatible with visitor safety in campgrounds and recreation sites.

After operations, the Sunset Cove Campground and Day Use will remain closed for the winter season. During this closure, visitors can use Princess Creek Day Use and Boat Launch to access Odell Lake.
