(Update: Police identify driver killed in crash.)
A 33-year-old Bend man was killed in the rollover crash of his pickup truck in the driveway of a southeast Bend home Sunday night, police reported.
The crash was reportedly shortly before 10 p.m. in the 61000 block of Fargo Lane.
Bend police Lt. Brian Beekman said fire crews responded and removed the male driver from the overturned pickup.
After family notifications, Beekman on Monday identified the driver as Derrek Wesley Finnell.
A preliminary investigation and search of the area indicated the crash involved no other people or vehicles, Beekman said.
Finnell apparently was heading north on Fargo Lane when his pickup left the road, struck objects on the shoulder and overturned.
“Based on evidence at the scene, speed appears to be a factor in this crash,” the lieutenant wrote in the initial news release. He added that investigators will attempt to determine if alcohol or drugs also played a role.
The investigation is continuing, Beekman said Monday, adding that no driver toxicology information was yet available.
Several area residents heard the loud crash and contacted Deschutes County dispatchers, with at least one believing a vehicle had struck a house, but arriving first responders found that not to be the case.
