Passenger dies in Portland stolen-car crash; driver jailed

A 26-year-old driver was arrested on DUII, second-degree manslaughter and other charges after a crash in Portland that killed a passenger in his car, which had been reported stolen.

Adam Alexander Valle also is charged with reckless driving and failure to perform the duties of a driver, police said.

The victim’s name has not been released pending family notifications in Portland’s seventh fatal crash so far this year.

Police in Portland say an officer at around 11 p.m. Saturday attempted a traffic stop near Southeast 124th Avenue. The car did not stop and the officer did not pursue it.

The Subaru Legacy crashed into a pole at 122nd Avenue and Division Street. Arriving officers determined a passenger in the car had died.

Police say the driver fled but was found within a block. He was taken to the hospital for treatment of non-life-threatening injuries.
