Bend’s Whitewater Park surf wave reopens, 7 weeks after tragedy prompted closure
Bend's Whitewater Park surf wave reopened Saturday, seven weeks after a 17-year-old surfer became trapped and died. There's now a helmet and life-vest loaner station off to the side. Along with structural changes to eliminate gaps that could trap a surfer's foot, more signs are out to remind people that river surfing is not ocean surfing -- the river's current never stops.
