OAKLAND, Calif. (AP) — A San Francisco Bay Area district attorney recalled in the Nov. 5 election filed criminal charges this week against 11 jail staff for a 2021 in-custody death. Alameda County District Attorney Pamela Price said Thursday her office had filed criminal charges against seven sheriff’s deputies, two former deputies and two medical staff. Price was elected in 2022 on a progressive platform that included holding corrections officials accountable for in-custody deaths. It is uncertain if her successor will continue the prosecution. The family of Maurice Monk received a $7 million settlement from the county.
