Candidates in tight race for Mississippi Supreme Court as St. Pe’ wins Court of Appeals seat

JACKSON, Miss. (AP) — Amy St. Pe’ has won an open seat on the Mississippi Court of Appeals. State Sen. Jenifer Branning and Justice Jim Kitchens were in a tight race late Tuesday as votes were still being counted in a runoff election for the state Supreme Court. Kitchens is seeking a third term. In the Nov. 5 election, 7% of the vote was counted after Election Day in the Supreme Court’s central district. St. Pe’ defeated Jennifer Schloegel in Tuesday’s runoff in the Court of Appeals district in the southeastern corner of the state. St. Pe’ is a Gautier municipal judge, and Schloegel is a chancery court judge.
