Prineville BLM to close OHV trails this weekend for King of the Kastle side-by-side race

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Bureau of Land Management will temporarily close portions of the Millican Plateau and North Millican off-highway vehicle trail systems from June 5-7, 2026. The closure is for the annual King of Kastle side-by-side race and is intended to ensure the safety of both participants and the public.

Below is a map provided by the the Bureau of Land Management Ore. & Wash:

The temporary closure will affect the racecourse and several access points into the area. Security personnel will be stationed at entrance points along the racecourse throughout the weekend and flaggers and signage will be present along George Millican Road and at entrance points on the racecourse.

Lisa Clark, Deschutes Field Office Manager, stated the Bureau of Land Management is committed to providing recreation opportunities while keeping everyone safe. Clark noted that visitors can still access a wide range of riding locations. This is possible due to the more than 250 miles of trails within the Millican Plateau, North Millican and South Millican off-highway vehicle Trail Systems.

Alternate trail systems available to visitors include the South Millican OHV Trail System, which is located south of Highway 20 from George Millican Road. The Cline Buttes area, west of Redmond, also offers alternative riding locations.

The high-quality trails and facilities within the Millican Valley OHV Trail System are managed collaboratively. This management is conducted by the Central Oregon Combined Off Highway Vehicle Operations, or COHVOPS. The COHVOPS partnership includes the Prineville District Bureau of Land Management, Deschutes and Ochoco National Forests and the Oregon Parks and Recreation all-terrain vehicle Program.

For questions about the trail closures, the Prineville District office can be contacted at (541) 416-6700.
