JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Mt. Bachelor Kennel Club Dog Show is taking place this weekend at the Jefferson County Fairgrounds. This event is an official American Kennel Club competition where winning dogs earn points for larger shows.

The public is welcome to attend the dog show with free admission, offering an opportunity for education about different dog breeds and observing the competition.

Mt Vice President Karen Gray. Bachelor Kennel Club, highlighted the educational benefits of the event. “It's a great opportunity for people to really learn the value of why it's important to talk to breeders about the different breeds of dogs,” Gray said. “Not all breeds of dogs are for everybody. So if you're thinking about getting a dog and you're thinking about a particular breed of dog, this is a really good opportunity to learn more about that breed, to see the dogs out there, understand maybe how much grooming they need, how much socialization they need. It's an educational opportunity.”

Vendors are also present at the fairgrounds, selling various dog products, accessories and treats.

Judging takes place throughout the day, concluding with a “Best in Show” segment each afternoon between 3 p.m. and 4 p.m.
