Redmond police arrest 13-year-old accused of damaging sprinklers at Central Dry Canyon Skate Park

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A 13-year-old male was arrested on Monday, June 29 for Criminal Mischief after damaging newly installed sprinkler heads at the Skate Park in Redmond's Central Dry Canyon. The Redmond Police Department responded to a report of the damage at approximately 6:40 p.m.

The Redmond Police Department posted the video of the incident on their FaceBook page.

The damage to the newly installed sprinkler heads was estimated at $200. This incident highlights an ongoing issue, as the Redmond Police Department has received numerous reports of vandalism across city parks and is actively investigating those crimes.

Officers with the Redmond Police Department identified and arrested the juvenile. They used information provided by a witness and reviewed security cameras located within the park to pinpoint the suspect.

The City of Redmond has invested millions in its parks over the past year. The city government stated it is committed to ensuring these green spaces remain safe and welcoming for everyone. Protecting these public assets is considered a shared responsibility and officials noted that those who cause damage will be held accountable.

City parks are being patrolled throughout the summer in an effort to curb vandalism. The Redmond Police Department extended thanks to the citizen who reported the recent damage.

The 13-year-old male charged with Criminal Mischief will be appearing in court.
