4 minor injuries reported in massive pileup on Interstate 84 near Multnomah Falls; SUV catches fire

(Update: OSP initial information)
PORTLAND, Ore. (KGW/KTVZ) — An SUV caught on fire in an over-100-car pileup on Interstate 84 Thursday, KGW reported. But Oregon State Police said the numerous crashes did not result in serious injuries.
Multnomah County deputies said the pileup included more than 100 cars, trucks and semi-trucks.
Oregon State Police released this information around 4:30 p.m.:
"On Thursday, February 13, 2025, at 10:45 a.m. Oregon State Police (OSP) responded with local law enforcement and first responders to multiple crashes on Interstate 84 (I-84) westbound near milepost 35 about three miles west of Multnomah Falls.
"Preliminary reports indicate numerous factors, such as icy and slick roads, limited visibility, and near-white-out conditions, contributed to the crashes.
"Oregon State Troopers responded to eight separate crashes, and four individuals were transported to local hospitals with minor injuries. Local law enforcement also responded to an unknown number of crashes. The total number of vehicles involved is not known at this time.
"I-84 westbound is not yet completely open; however, traffic is starting to flow through the area. Much of the area remains under winter storm warning through 10 a.m. Friday. Residents are encouraged to postpone travel until weather conditions improve. If you must travel, visit tripcheck.com for current weather and road conditions,"
KGW's earlier information:
Everyone was able to exit the SUV that caught on fire, and first responders are going car to car to check on passengers; they are asked to stay in their cars for their safety.
There are reports of injuries, but the exact number and extent of those injuries are unknown at this time.
Currently, there are whiteout conditions in the I-84 area, with the westbound route remaining closed at Multnomah Falls.
Responders have arrived, and more are en route, the Multnomah County Sheriff's Office said. Currently, there are dozens of vehicles in the crash area, with multiple people stuck in their vehicles.
