ANKARA, Turkey (AP) — Israel’s Foreign Minister Yair Lapid has thanked Turkey for its cooperation in foiling attacks against Israelis and warned Israel would not “sit idly by’ in the face of threats from Iran to its citizens. Lapid spoke Thursday after a meeting with his Turkish counterpart, as the two countries try to repair their ties. Israel has issued a warning to its citizens to avoid travel to Turkey while media reports said Turkish authorities have detained five Iranian suspected of planning attacks against Israelis. Lapid’s visit comes amid political turmoil in Israel, where Prime Minister Naftali Bennett’s fragile, year-old government decided this week to dissolve parliament. Lapid is expected in the coming days to become caretaker prime minister.
