Neal scores 21, Arizona State uses big second half to defeat Oregon State 79-61

TEMPE, Ariz. (AP) — Jamiya Neal scored 21 points, Arizona State scored 46 points in the second half and the Sun Devils defeated Oregon State 79-61 on Wednesday night.

Adam Miller and Jose Perez each scored 16 points for Arizona State (13-12, 7-7 Pac-12). Frankie Collins added 14 points.

Tyler Bilodeau scored 21 points and Michael Rataj had 12 points, eight rebounds and four assists for Oregon State (11-14, 3-11). Jordan Pope scored 11.

Oregon State had eight turnovers in the first seven minutes of the second half, including three on consecutive possessions. Meanwhile, Arizona State hit 6 of 10 shots and built a 49-38 lead.

Oregon State’s struggles continued and the Sun Devils remained red-hot, outscoring OSU 26-5 through the first 10 1/2 minutes of the half. ASU made 10 of 14 shots, including 3 of 4 3-pointers, and a 15-0 run led to a 59-38 lead with 9:20 remaining.

The Sun Devils led by at least 14 points the rest of the way and finished off the win by making 5 of their final 7 shots. They shot 58% for the game.

After committing one turnover in the first half, Oregon State finished with 14. Arizona State had 15 turnovers.

Arizona State jumped out to an early nine-point lead and didn’t trail at any point in the first 17 minutes of the game. Oregon State took its first lead at 28-27 on a layup by Rataj with 2:45 remaining. Arizona State then went back up by three before a 3-pointer by Pope tied it at 33 going into halftime.

It was the 100th game in the series which Arizona State leads 55-45.

Arizona State plays at No. 5 Arizona on Saturday. Oregon State hosts Oregon on Saturday.
