Shepherd’s House Ministries adds part-time residential nurse to provide key medical services for homeless
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Shepherd's House Ministries, a leading nonprofit organization dedicated to serving the homeless communities in Central Oregon, said Thursday it's thrilled to announce the addition of Amber Knapp to its team as a part-time residential nurse.
Here's their announcement, in full:
Amber officially began her role on January 31, and brings a wealth of experience and compassion to the organization's vital medical services.
Funding was received via a generous two-year grant from PacificSource Community Solutions, further bolstered by a matching contribution from the Central Oregon Health Council (COHC).
“We are excited and honored to be part of the Medical Respite Program brought to life by Shepherd’s House Ministries. An added privilege is to come alongside our longtime partner, PacificSource Community Solutions,” said Kelley Adams, Grant Platform Manager with COHC.
Amber's role as a Residential Nurse is a pivotal development in Shepherd's House Ministries' commitment to enhancing the quality of health care services for those experiencing homelessness.
As a Residential Nurse, Amber Knapp coordinates medical care, engages in wound care, fosters improved communication with other medical providers, and oversees hospice at home. These critical responsibilities align seamlessly with Shepherd's House Ministries' dedication to providing comprehensive care to those who need it most.
“As a Bend native, I feel privileged to care for one of our most vulnerable and underserved populations," Knapp said. "I hope to build community connections to bridge the gaps in health care this population experiences. I am blessed to be part of such an amazing and caring team at Shepherd’s House.”
Evan Hendrix, Director of Navigation Services at The Lighthouse Navigation Center for Shepherd’s House Ministries, expressed enthusiasm about Amber's immediate impact, stating, "Amber Knapp, Residential Nurse, recently joined our team and has made an immediate impact by helping coordinate medical care, engaging in wound care, improving communication with medical providers, and overseeing hospice at home."
This significant step forward in Shepherd's House Ministries' health care initiatives strengthens their commitment to the well-being of the homeless community. It highlights the collaborative efforts with PacificSource and the Central Oregon Health Council.
“We are pleased to support our great community partner Shepherd’s House Ministries. The work they do is an invaluable resource for underserved communities and helps further our critical shared mission of improving social determinants of health,” said Lindsay Atagi, PacificSource Central Oregon CCO Director.
