Toastmasters Bend coaches individuals on effective communication and leadership skills

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Toastmasters, a global organization dedicated to improving communication and leadership skills, has a local branch right here in Bend.

Wednesday night’s meeting was held at the Deschutes Public Library.

Toastmasters Bend, says they continue to make significant strides in empowering individuals to become confident speakers and leaders.

With clubs spanning 143 countries and over 364,000 members, Toastmasters has become an outlet  for those seeking personal and professional development.

Wednesday evening’s agenda focused on Memorial Day and its personal significance. The toastmaster ‘Word of the Day’ was “valor.”

Here’s Toastmaster speaker, Joe Nickelson:

“If you were sitting downtown and you watched everyone walk by, they could all use Toastmasters. We all need to communicate, and we can all improve on communicating, whether it's getting that job, getting that promotion, learning how to communicate in personal and interpersonal relationships. It builds our confidence when we can articulate our thoughts, when we can show up, express ourselves in a cordial, professional way.”

One of Toastmasters' hallmarks is its educational program, which guides members through a structured curriculum designed to enhance their speaking, listening and leadership skills.

“Toastmasters actually has an educational path," said Eileen McLellan, former president of Communications Plus – Toastmasters. "There are 11 paths you can take, and they center around leadership coaching, speaking. Each pathway has five sections. The first one starts with giving an icebreaker speech, where it's just talking about yourself. The second section of a pathway is learning what your leadership style is. And then there's three other sections to the pathway. It's where you learn to give speeches, give something you're passionate about.”

As Toastmasters Bend continues to evolve, they say, the group remains steadfast in its commitment to empowering individuals to become effective communicators and leaders.

With a global network of passionate members, toastmasters stands poised to inspire countless more individuals to unlock their full potential.
