Four-legged athletes test their skills in inaugural Doggolympics in Bend’s Old Mill

(Update: Adding video, comments from organizers)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- The Olympics are almost wrapping up in Paris, with the closing ceremony taking place on Sunday. But, in Bend, we had our own Olympics on Saturday - the inaugural Doggolympics in the Old Mill District.

Greg's Grill and the dog food cart Hungry Hound hosted the event. The dogs tried their best to follow their owner's directions, going through obstacle courses, a high-jump competition and a sprint race.

Hungry Hound owner Bryan Du Toit said, "The event today is not just for the top dogs in town. It's for everybody to be involved. It's going to be a really fun thing.

"We have professional dogs, and then we have dogs that are just coming to check it out and want to play around on the agility course and do the high jump for stuff like that. It should be just a fun day for everybody involved."

The event was a fundraiser for the nonprofit Street Dog Hero. The goal was to raise a couple thousand dollars for the organization.
