SALEM, Ore. -- Governor Tina Kotek said Monday she has declared a state of emergency for Bend-La Pine Schools, to provide all needed state resources to assist in the wake of the Silver Rails Elementary shooting 10 days ago.

Among other steps outlined by the governor and other state officials: The governor said she's issuing a directive to "school districts across Oregon to communicate safe storage requirements to all parents."

Kotek, the Oregon Department of Education, Oregon Health Authority, Oregon Employment Department, Oregon Department of Emergency Management, and Bend-area legislators Senator Anthony Broadman and Representative Jason Kropf discussed state recovery response to the Silver Rail Elementary School tragedy.
