(Update: adding video)
REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A downtown Redmond stabbing last week that prompted a “shelter in place” alert and heavy police presence in the area has been determined by investigators to have been self-inflicted, police said Thursday.
Police had responded shortly before 5 p.m. last Thursday, March 14 to the reported stabbing near Southwest Seventh Street and Evergreen Avenue, Lt. Erick Beckwith said.
The victim was taken to St. Charles Bend, and the incident brought a significant police response to the area for several hours.
On Monday, Beckwith said in an update that the victim was in improving condition, and that an investigation had not yet identified a suspect. Police asked any witnesses to contact them, and for area businesses to check their security video.
Beckwith said Thursday that the now-complete investigation “concluded that no crime had been committed and no arrests will be made, as it has been determined the victim’s injuries were self-inflicted. The information regarding a fleeing suspect was unfounded.
"The Redmond Police Department would like to thank the Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, the Bend Police Department, and Oregon State Police for their assistance in the initial response and investigation," Beckwith said in Thursday's news release. "We would also like to thank the various businesses that submitted surveillance footage to assist investigators."
