BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A woman driving recklessly at 90 mph on Bend’s south end Monday morning eluded pursuing Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies, despite one or more tires flattened by “Stop Sticks,” and the agency is asking for the public’s help in finding the SUV with Arizona plates.

Around 9:15 a.m., a deputy saw a blue SUV heading north on Highway 97 near milepost 143 at an estimated 90 mph, Sergeant Jason Wall said.

The deputy tried to stop the vehicle, but the driver fled, Wall said. Another deputy was able to deploy Stop Sticks (spike strips) in an attempt to stop the SUV driver “from creating a greater danger to the public in the area” of Knott and Rickard roads, the sergeant said.

It’s believed the SUV was successfully “spiked,” flattening one or more tires, but the driver continued to drive recklessly, passing on the right, and at a high rate of speed when last seen heading north on NE 27th Street near Stevens Road, Wall said.

The suspect vehicle, occupied by a female driver and male passenger, was described as a blue, newer-model compact or mid-sized SUV, bearing an Arizona license plate similar to “CVM3211,” Wall said. It was described as having low-profile, “racing-style” tires and wheels.

The SUV may have been abandoned in southeast Bend or east of the city limits.

DCSO is asking the public for assistance, Wall said. If the suspect vehicle is seen, you’re asked to contact county 911 dispatch at the non-emergency number, 541-693-6911.
