BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Bend man facing harassment and disorderly conduct charges for his alleged actions at the downtown McMenamins called police Tuesday evening after a NewsChannel 21 report on the incident that included security photos, agreeing to meet with officers Wednesday and receive a citation.

The 58-year-old Bend man called police shortly after 6 pm. and “said people contacted him after they saw his face on the news,” Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said.

He was interviewed by the officer by phone and “agreed to come in today to be cited and released” on charges of harassment and second-degree disorderly conduct, she said. Miller said the man was cited in lieu of custody on the charges.

Exclusive photos obtained by NewsChannel 21 showed the suspect who Bend police say physically threatened workers at McMenamins in downtown Bend, fleeing the scene before officers arrived.

A witness who spoke only to NewsChannel 21 said Tuesday the man approached the front desk at McMenamins Old St. Francis School around 10 p.m. Monday and immediately become hostile and aggressive towards staff. The suspect was supposedly upset that the Broom Closet, a hidden bar, was closed for the night.

The witness said that after threatening workers, muttering racial epithets and waking up dozens of frightened guests, the suspect choked a security guard and fled the scene before police arrived.
