4 Vancouver police officers shoot, kill man who pointed gun; K-9 shot in the tail
VANCOUVER, Wash. (KGW/KTVZ) — Four Vancouver police officers shot and killed a man early Monday morning, KGW reported. The man is accused of pointing a gun at a group of people and police officers, according to the Vancouver Police Department.
Around 12:51 a.m., several people flagged down an officer who was driving on Northeast Andresen Road and reported that a man pointed a gun at them. The man was walking southbound.
More officers responded and found the man, who did not listen to police commands to stop, Vancouver police said. An officer deployed his K-9 to contact the man. He pointed a gun at police and four police officers fired shots, hitting him, Vancouver police said. The man was taken to a hospital, where he died. He has not been identified yet.
The Vancouver police K-9 was shot in the tail and taken to an emergency veterinary hospital for surgery. No Vancouver police officers were injured.
The four police officers are on critical incident leave, which is standard protocol. They have not been identified yet.
The Southwest Washington Independent Investigation Response Team is investigating the deadly shooting.
