BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A dispute over trespassing led to two gunshots in the Romaine Village area of southwest Bend Sunday night, bringing out a large police presence to investigate, police said Monday as they asked the public for any information that could help them identify a suspect.

Officers responded about 10:15 p.m. Sunday to a reported weapons offense near the intersection of Romaine Village Way and Ridge Drive, Bend Police Communications Manager Sheila Miller said. Area residents reported hearing shots fired and seeing many police, including a SWAT team, rush to the area.

The victim reported that he was driving a golf cart away from his business when he saw a man and woman on a nearby private property, Miller said.

“According to the victim, he pointed a flashlight in their direction and told them to leave the property,” Miller said in a news release.

“There was a dispute about trespassing, and as the victim drove away, the man fired two shots,” she said. “Two 9-milimeter casings were found at the scene.”

Miller listed the likely charges against a suspect as unlawful use of a weapon, menacing and aggravated harassment.

The investigation is ongoing, Miller said, and police have not identified a suspect at this time. Anyone with information about the incident was asked to call Deschutes County non-emergency dispatch at 541-693-6911.
