Bend man arrested on methamphetamine possession charge; drug found in car

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Bend man was arrested Wednesday after drug agents with the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team and Bend Police found methamphetamine in his car.

On Wednesday, at approximately 5:00 PM, the Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team, in collaboration with the Bend Police Department, arrested William Butler for being in possession of methamphetamine.
Drug Agents and Bend Police Officers conducted a surveillance operation in the City of Bend. Police focused on an area where drug activity was being reported, the specific location will not be identified. A blue 2005 GMC Yukon was observed driving slowly through the area on multiple occasions, and suspicious activity was observed by Drug Agents.
A Bend Police Officer got behind the vehicle and observed some traffic violations and made a traffic stop on the vehicle in the area of SE 3rd Street and SE Roosevelt Ave. Drug Detection K9, Bonnie, was deployed and alerted to the odor of drugs in the vehicle. The driver, and only occupant, 49-year old William Butler, was asked to exit the vehicle, and when he did a glass pipe with methamphetamine fell out of his lap and onto the ground landing in some snow.
Drug Agents applied for and were granted a search warrant for the vehicle. A search of the vehicle revealed a metal container with methamphetamine in it. This item was located in the center console area inside the vehicle.
At the time of this incident, Butler was found to be on pretrial release for multiple open cases.
William Butler was transported and lodged at the Deschutes County Adult Jail. CODE Detectives were assisted by the Bend Police Department during this investigation.
