La Pine speeder’s traffic stop brings Bend driver’s arrest, as nearly 5 pounds of methamphetamine seized

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) – A traffic stop for speeding in La Pine led to the 61-year-old driver’s arrest on drug charges after a narcotics K-9 helped Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies find nearly five pounds of methamphetamine in his vehicle.
Sergeant Jason Wall said the deputy conducted a routine traffic stop for a speed violation on Wednesday in the 51000 block of Highway 97.
"During the course of the traffic stop, the deputy established reasonable suspicion there were controlled substances located in the vehicle," Wall said in a news release.
The deputy requested a narcotics K-9 team, which responded to the scene. The K-9 alerted to the presence of a controlled substance in the vehicle.
A search warrant was applied for and granted, Wall said, and a commercial quantity, about five pounds of methamphetamine was found inside the vehicle.
The driver was taken into custody without incident and lodged at the county jail in Bend on drug possession and delivery charges. (KTVZ News policy is not to name arrested individuals until and unless formal charges are filed.)
A jail official said the man was booked into the jail around 8 p.m. Wednesday and released shortly before 11 a.m. Thursday, pending a March 19 court date.
