BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – A traffic stop and drug-detection K-9’s alert led to the seizure of a large quantity of methamphetamine and the arrest of two Bend-area residents on felony drug possession charges, one also charged with being a felon in possession of a gun.

The Central Oregon Drug Enforcement Team, working with Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies, arrested Wally John Wise, 39, and Deserae Dawn Barclay, 45, during a traffic stop around 10:30 a.m. Wednesday near Kiowa Drive and the Old Bend-Redmond Highway, CODE Team Lt. Mike Landolt said Wednesday.

Drug agents and deputies conducted surveillance involving drug possession and distribution. They identified a car whose occupants were believed to be transporting drugs, Landolt said.

Drug detection K-9 Keira and her handler were called to the scene and the dog alerted to the odor of drugs, leading to a search warrant.

A search turned up a large quantity of meth, a handgun, cash and other drug-related items, Landolt said. The gun was found in a backpack in the back seat, with documents belonging to Wise.

Wise and Barclay were booked into the county jail in Bend and were arraigned on the charges Wednesday, records show. Both remained held on $500,000 bail, pending a return to court in a week for arraignment on their formal indictment.
