Caleb Cegers trial continues with testimony on video evidence, crime scene
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) — The trial of Caleb Cegers continued this week, as jurors heard new testimony related to the 2023 fatal shooting of Taylor Wyss outside Duda’s Billiards in downtown Bend.
Cegers is accused of fatally shooting Wyss during an August 10, 2023 altercation on the sidewalk outside the bar.
KTVZ News was in the courtroom as Thursday’s testimony unfolded.

Police testimony focuses on surveillance footage
Before noon, the prosecution called witnesses from the Bend Police Department, including Sgt. Kyle Denney.
Denney testified that he was acting as a detective on the night of the shooting and was tasked with gathering security footage from nearby cameras, including those installed as part of the city’s downtown safety initiative.

After portions of that video were shown in court, Denney was questioned about the clarity of the footage.
“Hard to see a lot of what is going on in that?”
“Yes,” Denney responded.
“It’s hard to see a lot of detail?”
“Yes.”
“And so when you say several individuals came out of Duda’s, can you tell exactly how many people came out?”
“No.”
“Can you tell exactly how many people are moving down the sidewalk?”
“No.”
Crime scene investigator presents evidence
The prosecution also called Canyon Davis, a crime scene investigator with the Bend Police.
Davis presented several photos taken during the investigation, including close-up images of a spent shell casing believed to be connected to the shooting.
Background: Night of the shooting
According to investigators, the shooting followed a disturbance inside Duda’s Billiards, where Cegers and others were reportedly asked to leave before a fight spilled outside.
Authorities say Wyss, a 33-year-old Redmond man, was shot on the sidewalk and later died from his injuries.
Prosecutors argue that Cegers was intoxicated and initiated the confrontation, while the defense claims he acted in self-defense after being chased and assaulted.
Arrest, charges and legal proceedings
Following the shooting, Cegers fled the area, prompting a nationwide manhunt before he and his brother were arrested in Tennessee days later.
Cegers has pleaded not guilty to second-degree murder, first-degree assault and unlawful use of a firearm.
His brother, Dahnte Cegers, later pleaded guilty to hindering prosecution for helping him flee and was sentenced to probation.
Cegers’ girlfriend at the time, Sadie Cole, also pleaded guilty in connection to the incident after punching a bartender and assisting in his escape.
The case has faced multiple delays over the past two years, drawing frustration from Wyss’s family as they awaited trial.
The trial is expected to continue in the coming days, as both sides present evidence and testimony to determine whether the shooting was murder or self-defense.
