Winds pushed a burn pile, spread to about an acre off Alfalfa Road in Powell Butte on Saturday.

POWELL BUTTE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- An escaped legal burn pile in Powell Butte burned about an acre Saturday afternoon before firefighters and others on scene stopped the wind-driven blaze, officials said.

Crook County Fire & Rescue crews were sent to a property on Southwest Alfalfa Road just before 1 p.m., Division Chief Russ Deboodt said.

They arrived to find a rapidly spreading fire burning in sagebrush and grass, Deboodt said. But it was quickly extinguished by fire crews, assisted by the homeowner and neighbors.

There were no injuries and no structures were involved, he added.
