Sheriff's deputies say K-9 found heroin, meth on her person

TERREBONNE, Ore. (KTVZ) – A Bend woman suspected of returning to the area with drugs was pulled over on Highway 97 in Terrebonne and cited this week after a drug-sniffing K-9 found heroin and methamphetamine on her person, Deschutes County sheriff’s deputies said Thursday.

The sheriff’s office Street Crimes Unit had been investigating the 39-year-old woman for selling drugs in the county, Detective Sgt. Doug Sullivan said.

On Tuesday, the unit’s detectives learned she was returning to the county with possible drugs in her possession. She was spotted heading south on Highway 97 near Terrebonne and her SUV was stopped near Lower Bridge Way, Sullivan said.

Sheriff’s office K-9 Masa and his partner, Deputy Ben Bartness, were called to the scene and the dog alerted to the presence of controlled substances, the sergeant said.

A search of the woman found about 1 ½ ounces of suspected heroin and about an ounce of methamphetamine, Sullivan said.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, the woman was cited in lieu of custody on charges of drug possession, along with third-degree theft and a misdemeanor charge of driving with a suspended license.

The sheriff’s office Street Crimes Unit focuses enforcement on street-level drug cases and quality of life issues linked to property crimes, Sullivan said.
