NewsChannel 21 to host Janelle Bynum-Lori Chavez-DeRemer debate, in one of the hottest House races in the US
BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) – After weeks of negotiations with the campaigns on a date and format, the two candidates in Oregon’s Fifth Congressional District, Republican Rep. Lori Chavez-DeRemer and Democratic challenger Janelle Bynum, have agreed to a debate this fall on NewsChannel 21, the station announced Friday.
The hour-long debate is scheduled to take place on Thursday, Oct. 10, at 6 p.m., less than a month before the Nov. 5 election, and will be moderated by veteran NewsChannel 21 Anchor Lee Anderson.
The two candidates are competing in one of the country’s most closely watched races to decide control of the House.
They have actually squared off twice before, in Oregon House campaigns in the Portland suburbs. Now, they are vying in a swing district that crosses the Cascades for a seat in Congress that was decided by just 2% two years ago, with a large proportion of non-affiliated voters.
We are pleased to now have scheduled a debate in this major House race as part of NewsChannel 21’s comprehensive coverage of Decision 2024.
