Prineville sees a surge in electric vehicle charging stations around the area

PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- There has been a recent surge of EV (electric vehicle) charging stations around the the city Prineville.

Since late 2022, E-mobility grants have funded eight new public charging stations in Prineville, with 16 ports for drivers. There are several locations, such as the Crook County Justice Center, Crook County Fairgrounds and at Prineville's COCC campus.

Throughout Oregon, since 2020, Pacific Power has distributed more than $6.5 million to nonprofits, schools and local governments for installation and work on charging stations and EVs of all kinds. Here's a list of grants announced earlier this year.

Kelsey McGee is speaking Tuesday with the sustainability coordinator at COCC, Noelle Bell Copley, the manager of electricity mobility programs with Pacific Power, as well as a Crook County commissioner. Her report will be on NewsChannel 21 at Five.
