Unattended candle sparks Redmond house fire, officials say

No injuries reported; damage estimated at $75,000 to $100,000

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- An unattended candle burning in a bedroom apparently sparked a fire Thursday morning that caused up to $100,000 in damage to a southwest Redmond home, officials said.

Redmond Fire & Rescue crews arrived around 10:15 at the home in the 1700 block of Southwest Juniper Avenue and found flames and smoke coming from the front half of the home, as well as a power line down in the front yard, Battalion Chief Ron Hawkins said.

Redmond Police confirmed that occupants were out and accounted for, Hawkins said.

Firefighters attacked the blaze from the front of the building and put it out, then conducted overhaul, he said.

The resident who left the home was evaluated by Redmond Fire paramedics, but no injuries were reported.

Losses to the building and contents were estimated at $75,000 to $100,000.

Bend Fire & Rescue assisted with engine and medic coverage during the fire. Other assistance was provided by Pacific Power, while the American Red Cross was called in to provide emergencyr assistance to two residents.
