300-acre Lane County wildfire in steep terrain fully lined, mop-up underway
VENETA, Ore. (KTVZ) – A 300-acre wildfire in steep terrain about 10 miles southwest of Veneta has been fully lined, and mop-up operations are making progress, Oregon Department of Forestry officials said Tuesday.
The 7K Fire was reported Friday afternoon and about 300 people were called in to tackle it. The fire’s perimeter lines were holding at 100% officials said Tuesday morning, and 15% of the fire was considered mopped up. The cause of the fire is under investigation.
Windy conditions late Monday night kept the fire active, but also helped crews easily spot areas where more work was needed.
“The remainder of work is situated on steep terrain that only gets more challenging from here,” ODF’s Tuesday morning update said. “Safety is a top priority as firefighters work further in the interior,” while “falling trees and rolling debris continue to be major concerns.” To date, no injuries have been reported.
