SISTERS, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A Sisters Country resident lost his fifth-wheel trailer home, pickup and beloved dog to a fire over Labor Day weekend, but the community has provided an outpouring of support to help the man get back on his feet, Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District officials said Monday.

Here's a news release about the fire and aftermath from fire district Executive Assistant and Public Information Officer Julie Spor:

On Saturday, Sept. 1 at 2:48 p.m., the Sisters-Camp Sherman Fire District was dispatched to a reported vehicle fire in a forest area about two miles northwest of Sisters, near the Tollgate subdivision.

Fire crews arrived to find a fully engulfed fifth wheel trailer and pickup truck at a dispersed forest campsite. The fire was also extending to the forest vegetation surrounding the camp.

A dog was killed in the blaze, and the trailer, pickup and campsite were completely destroyed. Firefighters were able to contain the vegetation fire to about a tenth of an acre.

Additional incident support was provided by the Black Butte Ranch Fire District, the US Forest Service, Deschutes County Sheriff’s Office, Oregon State Police, Oregon Department of Transportation, and Office of the Oregon State Fire Marshal. The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Sisters Country resident Randall Hodges was the trailer’s occupant, and was at work when the fire broke out. He returned home to find that he had lost everything and learned of the death of his beloved dog “Iron Mike” Tyson.

There has been an outpouring of local support for Randall since the fire. For more information on how you can support Randall, please visit the following website that has been established for him: https://www.supportnow.org/randall.

The Fire District wants to remind everyone that fire prevention at home and in the forest is everyone’s responsibility. Earlier this summer, the Fire District began a fire prevention campaign utilizing grant funding, that is aimed at improving the fire safety and protection at local forest camps. Smoke and carbon monoxide alarms, fire extinguishers and other fire safety information are some of the tools being distributed to help provide improved fire safety in the forest areas around Sisters Country.
