Nationwide ‘Not My President’ Presidents Day protests take place in Central Oregon

(Update: Adding video, comments from demonstrators)

REDMOND, Ore. (KTVZ)-- Dozens of demonstrators across Deschutes County rallied against the Trump administration and Elon Musk for the second time this month.

They told KTVZ News that rallies were planned in Bend, Redmond and Prineville.

Jennifer Tarabochia organized Redmond's protest, "We are patriots. We love our country, and we want to save our democracy for our kids and our families and for the future. "

"Giving an unvetted private citizen access to our private information is very concerning," added Tarabochia. "Gutting institutions in our government that protect our water, that protect our health, that protect our most vulnerable citizens."

Several states filed lawsuits challenging Elon Musk and his authority, alleging abuse of power after thousands of federal employees were laid off last week.

That, as Musk continues to push for more government transparency. Donald Trump has defended the Department of Government Efficiency's decisions saying Musk is removing wasteful spending and fraud in the federal government.

Dozens gathered in downtown Bend, protesting against Elon Musk's handling of federal institutions.

Jen Stuart is the Senior Pastor of the Bend United Methodist Church and attended Monday's protest in Bend. "Elon Musk has taken over the presidential branch, it seems like. And people are getting fired. I have church members who are getting fired. "

Demonstrators believe the Constitution is at stake, "It's hurting people's rights," said Carol Elwood, "It's taking away, people's security. It's damaging our educational opportunities."

Earlier this month, protesters gathered at Peace Corner in Bend in similar fashion, criticizing the new administration for Elon Musk's involvement and its "Project 2025" policies, though President Trump has said he is not associated with that document

Multiple other protests nationwide are scheduled for March.
