Exclusive: Rookie Prineville PD officer caught on camera urinating outside bar is back on patrol after reprimand, suspension
PRINEVILLE, Ore. (KTVZ) -- After NewsChannel 21 broke the news in January of rookie Prineville Police Officer Jacob Gentry urinating outside a Prineville bar, we've now learned he's back on patrol following a written reprimand and two-day unpaid suspension.
It comes as the department still remains without a permanent top cop, for nearly a year.
In January, Gentry was placed on paid leave as Prineville Police investigated an off-duty incident. According to witnesses, Gentry had shown up a Prineville bar "visibly intoxicated," identifying himself as a police officer and talking about pending cases.
After being denied service, witnesses and exclusive video obtained by NewsChannel 21 show Gentry urinating outside the bar. Witnesses say he was then sent home in a cab.
While urinating in public is not a crime in Oregon, Gentry received a two-day unpaid suspension, as well as a written reprimand for his off-duty, non-criminal incident.
It comes during a tough time for the department. After its former chief and his top captain resigned following an investigation into their conduct, the city of Prineville still remains without a top cop nearly a year later.
The city and former chief Larry Seymour are also facing a lawsuit from a former manager, accusing them of illegal conduct.
Three finalists recently were selected to take on the role, but after visits that included interviews with city staff and a meet-and-greet with residents, the city decided to resume the search pursue other options.
New finalists are expected to be announced in July.
