Street Dog Hero welcomed 28 dogs into their care, at the Bend Airport

(Update: Adding video, comments from staff)

BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- A dog rescue nonprofit welcomed 28 dogs, at the Bend Municipal Airport, Sunday. Street Dog Hero took in those dogs from a shelter in Norman, Oklahoma. It's thanks to a partnership with "Dog is My Co-Pilot."

The organization transports animals from overcrowded shelters to adoption centers. Dog is My Co-Pilot, has transported 37,000 animals to safety, making that 140 flights per year. The organization transports animals from shelters primarily in California, Texas, New Mexico and Oklahoma.

"This is kind of the last flight that will do, until spring time," Jaymie Friesner, Street Dog Hero's Medical Intake Manager said Sunday. "So kind of sad because those Oklahoma shelters don't get, you know, the help throughout these winter months. So it's always fun when we get to reunite in the spring and do it all again."

All the dogs were taken back to Street Dog Hero, then will head to foster homes. Most of the dogs are already available for adoption. You can fill out an application on the Street Dog Hero's website.
