Getting Outside During Fire Season: What to Know Before You Go

Wildfires, smoke and closures have disrupted outdoor recreation across Oregon this summer, changing plans for families, hikers and visitors.

As crews continue making progress on fires across the region, access to some recreation areas is beginning to change. But even while fire season continues, many Central Oregon parks and outdoor destinations remain open for people looking to get outside.

Before heading out, officials encourage visitors to check current conditions, know what restrictions are in place and have a backup plan in case smoke, fire activity or closures change quickly.
