La Pine American Legion Post 45 honors, says farewell to fellow Marine with 21-gun-salute, flag ceremony

La PINE, Ore. (KTVZ) --  Marines from Springfield drove to La Pine Saturday to honor a fellow Marine. At the American Legion Post 45 in La Pine, many came to remember retired marine colonel, William Russell Stanard Jr.

Family members and friends got a chance to say their goodbyes to their loved one.

Stanard was a part of the American Legion since the early '90s. He joined the military at the young age of 17, rising to the rank of colonel in the Marines and the Aviation Wing.

The Marine Corps brought in an honor guard from Springfield to give the colonel a 21-gun salute.

His daughter and grandson were there at the ceremony, to receive the American flag from the Marines.
