BEND, Ore. (KTVZ) -- Thursday, May 8 marks the 80th anniversary of VE-Day - Victory in Europe, when Nazi Germany surrendered to America and its the Allies in Berlin, Germany.

The United States and Allies would continue fighting the Japanese in the Pacific for 4 more months until the Japanese surrender on Sept. 2, 1945 - V-J Day - Victory over Japan which ended WWII.

On May 8, Bend Heroes Foundation will display military service flags at Bend Heroes Memorial in Brooks Park and flags bearing names of local WWII veterans along Veterans Memorial Bridge (Newport Ave.) from 7:00 am to 4:00pm

VE Day proclamations will be read at Bend Heroes Memorial at 7:00 am.

May 8 also marks the beginning of the 20th year of the Foundation's Bend Parade of Flags program.
