Dry and cold overnight, sunny and warmer Friday, wintry over the weekend

The region continues to be on the dry and sunny side of the street until Saturday morning. There will be a bit of a warm up Friday as the mercury finally gets into the 50s as we move toward the weekend.

The weekend will be the beginning of yet another series of winter storms that will annoy the region once again. The beneficial precipitation continues from Saturday through at least Tuesday. The forecast is challenging since the type of precipitation that will fall is expected to be a combination of rain, snow, sleet, and freezing rain.

The precipitation overnight will be a mix of snow and rain, with some sleet mingled in at some elevations. Then, as the day moves along the shift to all rain is likely since temps will be well above freezing. Then once again, the change over to a wintry mix as the sun goes down.

The showers will be off and on, with the mountains continuing to add to their snow totals. Snow pack will continue to grow and the drought situation continues to improve.

Starting Saturday, do not expect much sunshine until at least the middle of next week.
