Dry pattern shifts to a wet pattern over the weekend
The short-lived dry spell that brought us a few days of dry and crisp conditions is coming to an end. The region will now be dealing with several waves of light precipitation. The temperatures today will be mild and that will lead to a wintry mix scenario over the weekend and into next week.
Central Oregon will see mountain snow and lower elevation rain and snow. The lower elevations are not expected to see much in the way of accumulating snow, since it will be mixed with the rain at times, but we will see slick roads. Overnight low temperatures are not likely to get much below freezing for very long so icy roads along 97 should not be widespread.
Mountain passes will be snow covered and have some patchy ice in some locations. This will be the trend from Saturday through Tuesday. The snow in the mountains will be present each of the next four days, with a few inches each day.
Overall, we are trending back to a rather wet period for several days. The late winter/early spring weather is usually challenging as the mercury in the thermometer hovers near freezing at night but milder in the day. Wintry mix of rain and snow is the best way to define the next four days at elevations below 3500 feet.
Remember to advance your clocks ahead on hour on Sunday morning as we switch to Daylight Saving Time. Darker mornings extended but lighter later each evening.
