Summer pattern expected over the weekend
A major swing in the temperatures this week as the mercury in the thermometer has ranged from a low of 28° on Tuesday to the low 80s over the weekend. This will be a fun one for the books as we see the wintry weather early the week, a brief day or two of spring, then summer this weekend.
There will be plenty of sunshine for the next several days with the only variable being the winds and the temperatures. The winds will not be all that robust, but will arrive from the east tomorrow, the west by Sunday. Not much speed, but a noticeable breeze from time to time.
There is another prescribed burn today, this time about 5 miles west of Bend. The east or northeast winds will transport the smoke toward the Cascades and away from the 97 corridor. This is good news for the residents in the region. Those homes west of the burn will be impacted by the smoke through the day and into the night.
Overnight the smoke lays down in the cooler air and dissipates through the lower levels of the atmosphere. The warm sunshine will help the smoke rise well into the sky, and disperse over a wider area. The higher the smoke the less it will impact the residents in the region, but still present some respiratory issues.
Enjoy the warmer weather today, but keep in mind that you need to hydrate in the heat. Also, a byproduct of this big warm up will be the quick runoff of melting snow.
The Drought Monitor has been released and we are unchanged from last week. The warm air will help melt the snow into the soil, improving our drought scenario, but it will also increase the evaporation process. More beneficial at this time of year with all the snow to work on.
