Mild and dry today, rain is likely Sunday
The region will make a transition from dry and mild to rainy and cool this weekend. Today will be sunny to start then some clouds move in as the day moves along filling the sky by the end of the day. Rain is not expected, and we will see the mercury in the thermometer rise into the low to middle 70s.
Today is what I refer to as the “transition” day with Friday being dry and warm, Sunday being cool and wet, today is when we make the transition. As the cold front moves in, the winds will also pick up, so batten down the hatches this afternoon. Gusts near 25 mph will not be uncommon.
Sunday will be mostly cloudy and cool as a cold front moves through. Ahead of the cold front will be some widespread rain. The rain is going to be more likely closer to the east face of the Cascades, than over the High Desert. Sisters, La Pine and Sunriver should receive about a half an inch by the time Monday morning arrives. Redmond, Prineville and Madras are likely to get about a quarter of an inch of rain.
Monday will be a cloudy and cool day as the rain begins to taper off. The morning commute will be on the wet side and road spray will reduce visibility from time to time on our larger highways.
By Wednesday Central Oregon will be much warmer, reaching the low to middle 80s from mid-week into the weekend.
