Rain arrives tonight as brisk winds continue

KTVZ

Mostly cloudy skies and breezy to windy conditions define the day. Expect to see light to moderate rain push through the High Desert into the night and taper off in the morning hours of Monday.  Steady soaking rains will provide moisture to the dry soil in the region.

The rainfall amounts in the High Desert are only expected to be about 0.25 to 0.5” but the runoff from the mountain rain will contribute to some minor flooding issues.

Rain will be heavy along the crest of the Cascades and more robust on the west facing slopes.  There is the potential for 1 to 1.5” of rain in the mountains by the time Monday morning arrives.  The rain, along with the melting snow, may lead to rivers and creeks running fast and full.

The other aspect to the forecast today and tonight will be the robust winds. Gusts near 25 – 30 mph are expected to develop through the mountain passes the rest of the day and tonight.  High Desert gusts will be in the 20 - 25 mph range. Sustained winds of 15 – 20 mph are expected to continue into the night. If you are planning any travel through the passes, be prepared for some dangerous crosswinds as the wind channels and funnels through the Cascades.
