Heat wave persists

The upper-level ridge is moving very slowly eastward which means we will have to bear a few more days in the triple digits; I’m not expecting us to break the trend and drop below 100 until Wednesday or Thursday. Tuesday will be our hottest day with temperatures at or above 105 in Bend, Redmond, Prineville, and throughout Jefferson County. I am expecting us to continue to break records into this work week. Relief during the nighttime hours is not expected, as we’ll be in the upper 50s and into the mid 60s for much of the region. Normal highs this time of year are in the low 80s, so we are well above average during this extended heat wave.

The McCaffery fire outside of Redmond that broke out yesterday evening shouldn’t see any extreme fire behavior today. We were a bit breezy yesterday, and fire danger concerns were high but winds are expected to calm down a bit today for most areas. It will remain that way for the next few days. The Bend and Redmond region will be a little breezy in the late afternoon today with gusts up to 20mph pushing the fire mostly south-southeast for today. I expect winds to pick up a bit for everyone on Tuesday afternoon and into Wednesday, which could once again, increase fire concerns because we are still hot and dry.

We are still under a Heat Warning and a Heat Advisory for the next few days. Pay attention to any changes by referring to the Alert Banner on the website.

Have a good rest of your weekend and a great start to your work week! Be safe out there.
