Above normal temperatures into the weekend, smoky at times
The area will be chance for the area to see an isolated thunderstorm Thursday and Friday, but mainly over eastern Oregon. There is a chance for a rogue storm or two to develop in the heat of the day, but the chance is very low, only about 10%, but it is not zero. Overall, the weather features that will impact most everyone is still the smoky conditions.
There are several fires burning along the crest of the Cascades to our west, the Elk Lane fire to the north, the Crazy Creek fire to the east and the fires to the south include California. In other word, we are surrounded by wildfires that could provide us with unhealthy air quality. No matter which way the wind blows, there is a chance they will tap into the smoke from the fires and that will be transported to our area. Prepare for this pattern to continue into next week at least.
The temperatures will be in the low 90s Thursday and Friday, then we drop into the 80s on Saturday. The winds will pick up over the weekend and we should be in the breezy range (10 – 15 mph), but not windy. Gusts may be in the 25-mph range at time to time causing issues for firefighters.
Next week begins a run of normal or below normal temperatures as highs will be in the middle 80s. Currently there looks to be little in the way of relief from the dry conditions as widespread rain is not in the short-term forecast.
