Dry today but rain and snow will return late Saturday
Temperatures drop a bit today, into the upper 30s and low 40s. Tonight, lows will bottom out in the teens and low 20s- bundle up! We remain dry in the high desert today but mostly cloudy. The sun will do its best to try to break through throughout the afternoon.
Rain was previously expected to hold off until Sunday but is in a bit of a rush to return and will now roll back in Saturday evening. It will continue overnight and into Sunday. A warm front moves into the region Saturday, providing us with the first wave of rain behind it as it passes. We will see mountain snow begin with this frontal passage as well.
A cold front will follow behind the warm front on Sunday, bringing with it a stronger push of rain and snow. We’ll see rain in the day on Sunday but as the cold front passes in the evening, rain will turn to a wintry mix and even snow in some areas along Highway 97 starting in Bend and moving south. There is the possibility of waking up to snow on yards in areas like La Pine and Sunriver come Monday morning.
There is currently a Winter Storm Watch out for the Cascades for the time period of Saturday night into Monday evening due to the heavy snowfall and gusty winds associated with these incoming systems. The western slopes will see the brunt of the stormy winter weather, but our slopes could see over a foot of snow as well. Be careful driving through the mountain passes this weekend and don’t forget your winter emergency car kit.
