Strong winds, wintry mix/snow showers
Good Wednesday morning!
It was very windy last night and into the morning with gusts ranging from 40-50+ mph. Although the wind advisory is set to expire at 10am, it should feel windy the rest of the day.
We're dealing with a storm off the coast, known as a "bomb cyclone" characterized by a rapid drop in atmospheric pressure.
This system is bringing in a surge of moisture into the Pacific Northwest, fueling heavy rain and snowfall, along with strong winds. Some parts of the PNW will deal with torrential rains and flash flooding, but here in Central Oregon, we won't feel the storm's full impact.
We’re expecting wintry mix/snow showers in Deschutes County. Around 1-3 inches of snow is possible in southern areas. Other areas like Jefferson County, are going to be dealing with rain due to warmer temperatures. High temperatures will range from the low 40s to low 50s today.
There are a few alerts and advisories with this storm, including a Winter Storm Warning for the Cascades. Throughout the night into the morning hours, the Cascades are expected to get several inches of snow (around 8-12 inches).
Limited visibility driving through the passes due to the combination of heavy snow and gusty winds. Always a good idea to check ODOT cameras before you head out on the roads!
Falling snow and wintry mix is expected tonight in lower elevations, but rising temperatures in the coming days will shift this precipitation primarily to rain. Expect heavier rain tomorrow and Friday, while mountain snow is set to continue through the rest of the week.
Enjoy the rest of your day.
