First wave of rain and snow continues, second wave Friday night

Rain and snow began last night and have continued in some areas through the night. You are likely waking up to white yards or wet roads. Either way, roads will be slick on your morning commute so drive carefully.

Temperatures today will be on the chilly side, only reaching the upper 30s. Lows tonight in the low to mid 20s.

Snow will continue to fall through the first part of the day. We could see some stray rain or mixed showers this afternoon before we start to clear into the night. There will be a pause in precipitation Friday morning but the second wave of rain and snow will begin Friday night. During this time, the sun will do its best to say hi and peak through the clouds every now and then.

We’ve been tracking multiple low pressure systems affecting our area this week. The first one broke down the high pressure ridge early in the week. The second helped trigger the recent snow and the third is approaching tomorrow. With it, a series of fronts and a large surplus of moisture will funnel into the region. We could see 8-10 inches fall along the Cascades in the Friday to Saturday time frame. Another couple inches in Sunriver and La Pine is likely.

Sunday should be dry before the third and final wave approaches at the top of next week.

Happy Thursday and have a great day. Be safe on the roads!
