Snow Report: Mountain Passes & Resorts

The Winter Storm Warning for the Cascades expired early this morning, but we are still seeing some lingering winter-like conditions at higher elevations.

Current Conditions & Accumulations

  • New Snow: Most areas in the Oregon Cascades picked up 2–4 inches of fresh snow overnight and early this morning.
  • The Passes: Santiam (Hwy 20), Willamette (Hwy 58), and Government Camp (Hwy 26) may still have slick spots or slush on the road surfaces this afternoon. Travel with caution over the crests.
  • Resort Levels: Highs at the resorts will stay cool today, mostly in the low-to-mid 30s, keeping the snow quality relatively firm.

Tonight & Tomorrow

  • Freezing Levels: The freezing level will drop to the surface tonight. This means any damp roads or melting snow on the passes will likely re-freeze, creating icy patches for early Friday morning commuters.
  • Friday Outlook: Expect a clear, sunny morning. Freezing levels will rise to around 5,000–6,500 feet by tomorrow afternoon, leading to a much milder day on the slopes.

Bottom Line: The bulk of the storm has passed. Roads are improving, but watch for ice tonight and early tomorrow morning. Clear and sunny skies are expected for the mountains through the start of the weekend.
